I personally support any reasonable Sokka ship, but my favorites are Tokka and Ty Lokka.

I am 100% for Tokka. Here are some of my reasons:

1. I can't stand Suki.

2. Yue gets on my nerves.

3. Toph is a beast, plus she already like(s)(d) Sokka.
Ready, set...Haunt.

I liked Yue, but she was a classic teenage girl. Suki is all right as a character but is too underdeveloped, and when Sokka is fully developed as a character, it makes for an odd matchup for me. I always got the vibe that Suki was just Sokka filling in a gap that got left when he lost Yue so quickly.

Tokka makes the most sense to me because they can both be brash and sarcastic jokesters, but they both still have sensitive sides. In rewatching the show, I always end up noticing all these tiny moments where you can totally tell Toph is crushing on Sokka, and even some lines that some might define as passive-aggressive snipes at Suki in a way. It's very cute. But at the end of the day, Toph never expresses any of this out loud because that's a character flaw of hers: she hides her feelings, she's stubborn, she's a 'runaway' when it comes to her problems, so she's naturally not going to do anything about her feelings for Sokka.

I think it's that whole dynamic that makes the Tokka fandom have fun, the humorous sarcasm combined with these feelings that Toph is afraid to express. You get the impression that Sokka views Toph like a little sister, very much in the same way Katara looked at Aang, but I like to look at it where that's exactly the kind of basis that a strong romantic relationship can stem from.

Part of me was wondering if The Promise might explain who Toph gets together with (since we know she has at least one child) and I couldn't help but notice that (as expected)
Spoiler: show
Suki and Sokka seem to be separated in The Promise, as Suki goes back to the Kyoshi Warriors, like I always knew she would
which leaves me to wonder if Tokka is still in the cards. But even if so, it's probably going to feel rushed and underdeveloped because the comics will only last so long and have to rush their story a bit. Either way, I guess we'll see.

Either way, I'm definitely curious to know what Sokka does with his post-war life, and how Toph ends up birthing a daughter, and there's always the fandom for exploring Tokka fun.

I'm not really for or against pairings, but I think it makes sense.
Toph and Sokka seem thus far to have really good brother/sister chemistry, and it is very obvious that Toph has a crush on Sokka. The opposite may not have been true in the series, but it was clear that Toph held a special place in Sokka's heart. I think that, as a pairing, they're adorable.

Something I noticed: Chief Bei Fong is Chief Bei Fong. I believe that the cultures that ATLA is based on are all paternalistic, meaning that the family name is the husband's. So I think that if they DID get together, I don't think that they would use the last name as a primary identifier.

Canon-wise, it makes sense for me that Sokka and Suki would marry/have mini-Sokka/Sukies, only because they've been shown to have strong chemistry and a loyal connection (they were separate for almost a year, and still ended up as a couple regardless). I, personally, don't take Suki's return to the Kyoshi Warriors as a sign that the relationship has ended, if only because she was with the warriors in the finale, and she and Sokka were portrayed as a couple (if memory serves best). She seems the sort to me that puts duty over relationships.

But if Toph and Sokka got together, Toph would refuse to change her last name as a matter of pride, I imagine. xD

Also, Bei Fong is THE ONLY last name we know of in the whole series...
I'm not saying that their being separating MUST MEAN they broke up, haha. I just can't help but find it amusing and wonder about it. Either way you slice it, Suki seems to put her duty above Sokka, but that begs the question how a long-term familial relationship between them would work.

Either way, it would be nice to know who the heck Toph has a kid with...Although, knowing her, it could've been some fling she had. xD

This. I see Toph pulling one of those feminist, powerful-businesswoman deals and keeping her family name and passing it on to her daughter. This is the only way the Bei Fong name can carry on, seeing as Toph is female and has no siblings. Being such a powerful family within the Earth Kingdom, keeping their name going is pretty essential.

I'm accepting of Sukka, but I simply see Tokka as a better match. I can see Suki going off and being an old warrior woman on Kyoshi and being perfectly happy.

My opinion, as I said, is that Toph and Sokka are good for each other (whether as friends or... I dare say it, as soul mates). They simply get along too well, and Toph has clearly shown her feelings for him. Bryke had to have some sort of reason for revealing all those feelings to us, so I think something must come of it... whether it's Sokka's rejection or acceptance.

Yea, it was just another example of Toph's character development being dropped abruptly. >_>

I explored the one-sided crush/rejection angle of Tokka in a canonical, post-war fic a while back. I wonder if that's actually common at all - specifically the "getting rejected" part.

But yea, I just found it to be an odd move, after so much strong character development and sensical romance to leave Suki underdeveloped, illustrate Toph having a crush on Sokka, and then...not really go anywhere with any of it. In my experience, people seem to oppose Suki more to do with Suki's character feeling so flat and less to do with any actual hostility.

I actually kind of got irked when I saw her in the intro to Korra, but Iroh WASN'T there. Iroh was so much more of a character in the series than Suki was.

Of course, it's easier to take issue with nitpicky details when a series is as strong for so long as Avatar is. xD

Yeah, I was thinking about that last name thing after I posted it. ._. Weird.

And absolutely, I agree. That's the only problem I see with Sukka - Suki is much more ambitious than she is romantic.

and I, too, want to know who Toph's babydaddy is

Hahahahaha totally. I love Tokka. Makes so much more sense to me story wise than Sukka ever did, pretty much for all the reasons above. I also think they'd be freakin' hysterical together.

As much as I love tokka, I think we may be playing up Suki too much as a career-oriented, cold-hearted iron lady. Yes Suki's character development wasn't as in depth as Toph's because she didn't get as much screen time as Toph, but I think that Suki isn't as numb as this thread seems to suggest.

1. She really shows a softer side when she's off-duty
2. Despite her reputation as a Mary Sue, Suki emanates this simple warmth in her uncomplicated, easygoing attitude most of the time
3. She has a vulnerability that few people ever take note of, especially concerning love and Sokka and all that stuff. (e.g. her toughness completely breaks down when she realises Sokka's in disguise in Boiling Rock.) Considering she always has to maintain a front of strength and leadership as head of the Kyoshi Warriors, suddenly glimpsing her emotional dependence on Sokka like she was a little girl makes that vulnerability more striking. I mean, how could anyone not notice how emotional/relieved/happy she looked and sounded when she saw Sokka?

I don't think people should have a problem with her flat character. Some people are just plain and a bit boring, and there's nothing wrong with that. We can't all be sparkysparkyboomsupermegafoxyawesometough toph! (though toph is my queen) Suki's just your average, normal girl beneath the warrior exterior.
