Avatar: The Last Airbender RPG

Hello Avatar Community!

My name is Jakob and I am head of Two Tone Games, a small indie developer that has yet to release a title.

As a side project to our current project, and because of a lack of support by the community of our previous project, we have decided to take on the task of making an RPG out of the Avatar series. It will be developed using our proprietary SinsRPG engine, and RPG engine similar to that used in the Tales series of games (this means 4-player co-op).

As this is a side project and not for profit (essentially for a loss, as we will of course not be charging anything for the game), we welcome any community involvement in the project. Spriting, area/enemy/puzzle design, and art/music/sound design can all be done by the general Avatar fan community (and will be done by someone on our team otherwise). Programming work will be handled by me and possibly another on the team.

Updates in the progress of the game will be released at our (mostly my) blog at http://two-tone-games.blogspot.com/. When a video is released showing the game, it will be noted on the blog but posted at our YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/user/TwoToneGames.

Also, to avoid further confusion, this RPG is based on the original series, NOT Legend of Korra.

EDIT: If you wish to contact us by email, you can reach us at twotonegames (at) gmail (dot) com.

I believe Avatarportal members actually embarked on a project like this about 2(ish?) years ago. Naturally, there are tons of enthusiastic people on here that would love to do this, but I suggest that you involve yourself more heavily in the community before asking for support like this.

It sounds awesome, but this is a pretty blatant attempt at recruiting. At least personally, I don't take kindly to it. Again, I suggest you get to know us first.

I apologize if I came off as mainly attempting to recruit. I was only intending to let you guys know that there is a studio working on this game, and if you want to help, you can, but we can handle it by ourselves too.

I will do my best to actively involve myself in the community, although I can't speak for other members of the team. I may not be extremely active (posts 2-3 times a week) due to a very busy schedule, but I will see what I can do.

I may have subconsciously shifted my tone in that direction because I had a bad experience with the last community we tried to make a game for and ended up without a single member of the community helping with anything at all or even providing feedback.

I have screenshots (using Tales of Phantasia sprites as placeholders) and would be glad to upload them as proof of this not being an empty promise, but I would prefer to make it look a bit prettier first, and then release a demo for you guys.

Once again, I am sorry if I came off as simply attempting to gain laborers. My hope was simply to announce it, and hopefully receive community feedback so that the game is as close to what the community wants as possible.

Just so you know, I also posted a similar message to the first on AvatarSpirit.net. I am currently not involved in either community.

That's okay, I understand. Believe me, that wasn't the intended point of my post. :) I do hope that you will stay part of the community.

Personally, I'd love to help with some of the art, but I have much too much on my plate as of right now. Perhaps later, although I wish you luck with finding other people.

We are definitely not short on talented artists (the school most of the team members go to is very good at art), possibly excepting sprite work, of which I may be the only one, and since most of my time is spent programming, not having a dedicated spriter could dramatically slow down the project.

Music can be extracted directly from the show or remixed. Original compositions will probably be necessary due to the fact that an RPG generally has need of a large variety of music compared to a TV show.

As I mentioned earlier, I am handling the programming almost entirely with slight help from a couple of others.

Sound effects will likely be a challenge, and we may end up using royalty free effects from the internet.

I have many team members interested in concept and design of all types. Still, it never hurts to have a few extra people so that ideas can be discussed and refined.

I believe that that is the state of everything.
