Different Direction

Postby Mijuu » Wed Jun 03, 2009 2:47 pm

What if the film had a different director? Like Del Toro (though he's busy with the Hobbit duology) or Spielberg, or Peter Jackson?

Would anyone else be more appropriate to directing Airbender?
How would they do things differently?

It's hard for me to say what would be done differently considering I haven't seen the movie, yet. This may turn out to be one of the best TV show based movies of the year!

I don't know if Del Toro or Speilberg would have stayed as true to the show as M. Night. They are both great directors, but it would be more about making a buck than staying true to the TV show. Spielberg almost directed Harry Potter.

Agreed. I think that just from what we've seen, it'll turn out great. Sure, it might not be a carbon copy of the show, but I still think that it will turn out amazing.

Optimistic eh. :P

@ OP: hmm I wonder, what would the movie be like if Tarantino would have directed it. ^^

Night never seems to worry about making money, which is what makes his work so amazing compared to the generic rubbish that comes out every week. He makes HIS movies, and he does things how he sees it, and so far I've yet to be disappointed by his genius.

When "Eragon" was coming out, with every clip and every picture I saw of it I lost a little more hope. But with this movie, even as I see different things, the feel of the world leaking through those images feels just like what I felt watching the show, but with a richer, deeper quality. I believe that any changes or liberties Night takes will only enhance the movie's beauty and make it more fulfilling.

Not the highest bar to try and jump over though. I mean, how hard is it to be better than the DBZ movie?

Bloody.

I mean, there is something to be said for making it more mature, with some blood. But can Tarantino even do a scene without 4 gallons of blood splashed all over?

M. night has thrown out many amazing movies.. but he has had his flops as well.
Hopefully, he'll be able to preserve the integrity of the show while still putting his spin on the story.
Hopefully.
You look so tiny down there. Like a little, mean, peppershaker.
