Now that filming is finished...

Postby avatarscott » Sun Jun 28, 2009 1:33 pm

What are the film team going to spend the next 11 months doing:?:

Does anyone else think much of that time will be taken up by special effects addition, for all the bending?
Because it cant take too long to put together besides that, a couple of months tops... then a few months promotion leading up to the premiere... that still leaves a lot of time?

I definitly think that it will be for bending effects. It's "real life," after all, and chances are, they'll want it to be as amazing as possible. There's definitly going to be some editing, though. And I'm sure they give themselves at least a few months wiggle room - just in case something happens and they need to re-shoot something, or re-do a scene. Promotion time will definitly take 3+ months. After all, we're seeing a MAJOR movie trailer 11 months ahead of time.

Well a great deal of the movie will be CG. Think of the northern water tribe battle.

Don't underestimate the time special effects will take. Its not like they put the effect in once and its done, they try out multiple different effects in each and every scene to try and get it right. But it also gives them time to do several rounds of editing, decide what gets cut. Maybe some re-shoots, any sound dubs, make sure the score is recorded (I think parts of the scene need to be shot for music to begin composition, to get timing and mood right). And they need to get the nick production line ramped up to have several thousand products ready for purchase 3 months before release.

The airbending effects look pretty good in the trailer, but as you say, no doubt an entire movie's worth of bending WILL take a lot of tweaking and perfecting :) . I hope the score is as effective as the Track Team's was for the series, although I must admit I don't see it being as good... I still remember all of the best themes from the series in my head and am sure I will do for a very long time :D

Nick can't make it through a 1 hour special without 3 limited edition items for sale at the end of every aisle in target and walmart. If there is 1 thing nick can do, its pump out enough associated merchandise to personally choke every single 3rd world kid making them 7 times over.

I'm also waiting for the video game to come out 2 months before hand, so you can get the general gist of the entire movie before hand.

I'm not sure if you could have found avatar merchandise in the stores before the show even aired, but it wouldn't surprise me. Seems like merchandise production is always on time, while the actual shows are always behind schedule.

I never heard anything good about them. And the game for the 360 is openly referred as a gamer point whore's game.

In the burning earth you can get all one thousand achievement points in around a minute on the first level, not that I played it or anything.

Yeah, I never really liked the video games. I've played Into the Inferno for Wii (totally strayed from the plotline. So much that I had fits of anger, and threw a pillow at the TV), and Burning Earth for DS (simplified, and not fun). I'd much rather waste my video gaming time on Zelda games.

Night said that the teaser trailer took forever to complete. He also said that there was one water bending sequence alone took 9 months to shoot and edit.

That's because M.Night doesn't use too much or enough CG in any of his movies. (To be honest, I doubt he ever used CG..) He needs the right team to build what he wants which will obviously take him a while.

The next several months will be filmed in front of the blue screen. Preferably in an LA studio.
