Lessons for Writers & Readers

Postby mattthermo » Sat Jan 24, 2009 11:54 am

Another great book for advice is "On Writing" by Stephen King.

An example of why it's such a great book can be found in the very first sentence of the second forward. Which reads simply:

"This is a short book because most books about writing are filled with bull****."

It's one of the best books about writing I've come across (along with the other recommendations listed in ScarletCougar's first post notwithstanding). In fact King himself mentions "The Elements of Style" quite a lot in his book. He pretty much considers that one an essential for the up and coming writer.

Hey Scarlet, this really helped a lot! On working with my fanfic, every once in a while, I would feel that something was off, but I couldn't figure out what it was, but your tips and stuff really helped. Thanks!!

Trips really do come soon* Sooo oooo oon!

Someday I’ll wish upon a star
Wake up where the anons are far behind me
Where Anons melt like lemon drops
High above the chimney tops that’s where you’ll ***** me oh

Somewhere o-[/watermelon], bluebirds fly
And the trip that you dare to, why, oh why can’t I?

Well I see Tevs of green and
Red wookies too,
Headshots of boom, for me and you
And I think to myself
What a wonderful Chat

Well I see fonts of blue and I see noobs use white
And the brightness of pink
I like to sneeze and I think to myself
What a wonderful Chat

I see friends facing palms,
Saying, “How stupid are you?”
They’re really saying, I…I love you
I hear anons cry and I watch them join,
They’ll become new members,
New ships to be coined.
And I think to myself
What a wonderful Chat

Someday I’ll wish upon a star

Where Anons melt like lemon drops
High above the chimney that’s where you’ll ***** me

Glad to know this has helped some folks. I corrected links and edited for grammar the first post.

Dunno what compelled me to read this again, but woo, I did xD
And yes, Stephen King is a great author, his books are simply AMAZING. I learned a lot just from reading his books ^^
And I did happen to find his book "On Writing" under my bed. I thought it was a goner ages ago. But woo, that is a great book for writing ^^
