Book Two: Spirits Trailer - Thoughts and discussion

Postby Dragon of Ash » Wed Jul 24, 2013 6:12 am

The below trailer was released shortly after the panel in SDCC.

I'm very anxious to see how the Spirits book takes off. I could theorize possible negative spirits bleeding over into their reality. Perhaps someone trying to interfere with specific spirits again, much like with the koi in ATLA, season 1.

I also noticed some familiar faces, and these are just the ones in the first trailer! I'm rather curious to see how Won Shi Tong plays into the storyline. Always one to hold a grudge, it's probably not in her favor that Aang left him with such a bad taste in mouth. Spirits in the past haven't hesitated to hold the current avatar responsible for previous avatars actions. It could make for some interesting exchanges, I wonder what needs to be fetched at the library, or perhaps stored?

What are your guys' thoughts? What stood out to you?

I didn't see a lot of Mako, Bolin, Asami, Tenzin and no Iroh. I wonder how those characters will play in. But it seems Jinora seemed to play a bigger roll at least in the trailer.

Also industrialization doesnt really mesh with nature to well. The spirits maybe disturbed by this and People must find a balance between their new lifestyle and pleasing the spirit world. Which we know the spirits have a great effect on people's bending, so this disillusion between Industrial People and Nature maybe the cause of the falling number of benders in the world.

The prominence they give waterbenders in this makes me think it involves some sort of conflict between a tribe of benders (maybe even some non-benders or bloodbenders?) against the Republic. Would help explain why when Republic City, the capital of this place, could be under siege for so long until Iroh got there.

Either way, this seems to be setting up a very deep journey for Korra with the spirit world and the physical world as well. This trailer didn't get my heart racing just yet, but I think we will be seeing a very cool season of Korra. Near fully realized Avatar fights!

... did I see Tarrlok in some of those scenes?

And who's rockin the blue spirit fighting style at 0:44?

Really cool to see Wan Shi Tong again, but who's the nomad standing in front of him? Looks vaguely like Jinora. (1:34) AND WHY ARE THERE ROOTS IN WAN SHI TONG'S LIBRARY? WHAT KIND OF TREE/VEGETATION IS GROWING THAT BIG IN THE DESERT?

Or is the library still in the desert?

And who's the new guy (1:13 & 1:59)?

SO MANY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

@Pleh: lolololololololololol Lemme help.

The guy you're talking about who looks a lot like Tarrlok is Unalaq, the chief of the Northern and Southern Water Tribes. He's also Korra's uncle. He has some mad spirit controlling bending skills that Korra ditches Tenzin to learn.

The guy at 0:44 is the "wan" and only Avatar Wan, the first Avatar from 10,000 years before Korra.

The nomad with Wan Shi Tong is indeed Jinora. As you can tell from the trailer, she and Korra have some spirit travel shenanigans. Sadly, I can't really answer the root question.

Or the desert question.

Here, I think you're talking about Avatar Wan. The guy in the orange.

--------

From what was told at SDCC, this season of LOK is looking to be much better, story wise, than last season. Count and I talked about it the day it came out, and we both agreed that we kinda like how we're not quite sure what the big plot is going to be. It gives us a huge surprise factor.

So, wait, much of this was actually explained at SDCC? What other things were explained there?

And Avatar Wan was the FIRST Avatar?

Okay, I'm now intrigued by their new story and finally have reason to suspect that this next book may actually equal the awesomeness of the LAST Book 2 we've seen.

I can see a lot more influence from Hayao Miyazaki in this trailer than we've previously seen in Avatar. Looks like they're tapping back into the mystical Asian legend roots, which is a VERY good thing. After one season of nothing but angst-ridden drama, it's good to know we're finally going to get a real story.

Yes. Most of the things explained at SDCC are about Avatar Wan, but even then they didn't go into a lot of detail. He is indeed the first ever Avatar. He has a catdeer named Malu as his animal companion. Basically we're going to learn the origin story of the Avatar, something Bryke came up with in season 2 of ATLA but never got a chance to show. One cool thing about those flashbacks is that the animation is in a different style, more traditional Asian blocky-ness.

I am excited to see what Mike and Bryan bring to the table this season. It looked like Tenzin found the Wan Shi Tong's Library and was confronted by the very owl the library is named after. I am wondering what he is there for, and if there are any stories of the architect that was left behind :D . Also, Korra speaking to Kyoshi o.o I love seeing these characters come back and am very excited to see what else we will see from the era of ATLA! Also, does anyone know who the two water benders are that were surfing near the end? They looked southern water tribe, or most likely northern.
I am excited to see the next season, and hopefully it will be kick ass!

Also, ease up on the Makorra...it was a lot overboard last season
